I am full of food and it FEELS GOOD. Gotta love the pop overs.
power up
I just picked up some more gear for my photography bin of magic tricks. I can’t tell you what they are, but they make it so I can move great amounts of light around the room with ease and speed. Much goodness.
More releases on the way for the productions area. The Pacific Front releases were fast since I have direct access to the cover art, but the non-PFR releases will require additional time to post. I’m working on a mix for a radio show that will include a phone interview. It will be airing in early-mid October. More details to come.
version three launch
Here it is, the much more thought about than talked about version three of davingreenwell.com. I’ve built some sweet design features into this website which are mostly only sweet for me, but so that I don’t forget to use them, I’m going to say what they are now:
- Ability to update website (see right hand sidebar) from cell phone
- A dedicated mixes area with my radio shows and past CD’s
- Hot swap on the backgrounds. This means that I can switch the background image and I wont have to do more than switch one line of code for the new look to take effect. This is big.
Yeah.
Oops I forgot the biggest one:
- The biggest one. Is actually this:
- Discography is now in the Productions area – that’s all of my productions and remixes with sleeve art and listening links.
- That’s it.
- Oops, and an “About” section as well.
- Maybe I should make a “Contact” page as well.
- How about .. not. I don’t need the extra email. But I am sure if you really need to get ahold of me, you’ll figure it out.
Note:
This website SHUNS IE6. That is because IE6 does not properly support PNGs, which is what is responsible for the verinice transparent background which is enabling you to read this 50% easier than otherwise. Luckily IE7 corrects this, but to accomodate the roughly 37% market share (at time of writing this) that IE6 commands, we have a large and cumbersome BG PNG24 which will not tile in IE6 but will in every other modern browser out there. All hail the alpha transparency layer.
More population will be occuring to the mixes and productions section. Currently the production section has all my work up from Pacific Front Recordings, because, lo and behold, I have all the sleeve art for all the Pacific Front releases at high res since I am the guy who makes them. The mixes section has all Pacific Front Sessions shows (which air on Proton Radio) and a good back catalogue of dj ariz0na mixes. Force of Nature, the first dj ariz0na mix, will be posted, along with special guest sets I have done for radio shows other than my own.
Ultimately this is supposed to make the art of updating the website more fun, since I have a few more areas to update with rich content (and some not so rich.) That and I thought there should be a complete resource on my music somewhere on the internet. So here we are.
I’ll be performing (as AFK) at the Sunset Room tomorrow night with Natron, Freya, Joshua and Colin Sick tomorrow night. See you there!
Mobile update
Hey i am posting from my cell phone. If this works then i can see a few more updates to the site during my commute to work. I have always enjoyed long text messages so this will be great.
victoria electronic music festival 2007
Over one hundred photos from the Victoria Electronic Music Festival – BC Day Long Weekend, 2007.
AFK – Pacific Front Sessions July 2007
Here’s the latest and greatest from Pacific Front Sessions on Proton Radio. I wanted to do an all four-on-the-floor mix (which I suppose isn’t that remarkable on its own) since I did an all breaks mix for the Tide Pool show the same month. There are some classics in here and some really deadly remixes of some familiar tunes, as well as a good number of unreleased goodies.
VEMF is this weekend and as a result, this will probably be my last post until the show is over. Next week I’ll be leaving to go to Newfoundland for a week and a half. I miiiiiight post the Friskation set and tracklisting before then. It’s a big set – 4 hours of continuous music drifting from genre to genre.
Anyway. Here is the music:

The name “Atholhu” is the original Dhivehi word for atoll. Pictured above is Zorg, one of three sharks that lives in the living room here.
This mix was originally done for Fractal’s “Tide Pool is Love” show on Proton Radio. Since that particular show airs at midnight on a Thursday night, I thought it might be fair to post the set here so that people who may have missed it could have a listen. Let me know what you think.
update on updates
I keep a list of recommended links around for other people as much as I do for myself. So, if it starts becoming useless when people are not updating their sites, it becomes an interest to pare down the list to those websites which are continually maintained by the authors themselves.
My list as of earlier today:
Krishen – Consistently updated.
Neil – Hasn’t been updated in a really long time. Toast
Anand – Last updated in March. Toast.
Dad – Hasn’t been updated in a year. Jam.
Extrametrical – Consistently updated.
Jordan – Updated regularly until a month ago. On notice..
James – Last updated in April. Bye bye for you.
Mattbass – Recently updated.
Nicole – Hasn’t been updated this year. BBFY.
Renee – Consistently updated.
Julie – Regularly updated.
Adrian – Also updated regularly until a month ago. Hmm..
Kimli – Link updated, website regularly updated.
Hybridesque – Not updated since February. Toast..
Amanday – Regularly updated
Jaime – Long gone in cleverness.
c79 – Hasn’t been updated in half a year. Toast..
Darren Barefoot- Regularly updated, probably the most on this list..
Graham – Regularly updated.
Hessie the Destroyer – Regularly updated.
Corey Lee – Last update “I’m on facebook, are you?” That was in March. Toast..
Cam – Regularly updated.
Low resolution – Regularly updated
Malcolm Gladwell – appears his blog has disappeared.
The Essential Mike – No longer updated.

See the new list of recommended links. There is one new one in there which has returned to the Land of Updatio – Adam Quiney’s website, and Graham Davis’ website with his new website address.
ariz0na – Last Stand
The last dj ariz0na mix starts off with some spooky progressive house before following a familiar format – progressive house into progressive breaks into progresive trance. Not all of the ariz0na sets follow this format, but most of my favorite ones do. The reasoning behind this is that I believe that going from progressive house to progressive trance is just too obvious and too easy for everyone involved. Thousands of DJ’s make mixes like that every day. I do not find it compelling, but make no mistake – I do think it’s a good idea when one is DJing live to take the momentum they’ve got. But this is not a live CD, this is a mix CD, designed through mixing to take you several different places and leave you somewhere that feels pretty far away from where you began. This is a mix built to compell and push the comfort levels once again, and it is a mix to finish what I started 9 years ago when I first started giving out mix CDs.
Tracklisting:
- Porter and Blain – Surrounding Darkness (Original mix)
- Quivver – Brothers and Sisters (Original mix)
- Madoka – Distant Memories (Matthew Dekay remix)
- Gouryella – Walhalla (Hybrid’s Echoplex remix)
- General Midi and Hyper – We’ve Been Waiting (Fretwell remix)
- Twenty First Century Fux – Sunspirit (Ivan Gough and Luke Chable’s Oreo Breakbeat remix)
- Healy and Amos – Bleachin’ (Hybrid remix)
- Laguna Seca – The Flow (Nalin and Kane remix)
- August – Tongue Tied [In the Congo] (Original mix)
- JunkieXL – Bon Voyage (Original mix)
- The Arc – Echobeach (Original mix)
- Resistance D – Feel High (Spacefrog vs. Timelord remix)

circle of friends
Click to embiggen.
This was generated by a 3rd party tool on facebook and it has limits:
“You have too many friends. Become less popular. Limiting to 400..
Your friend wheel has been generated and added to your profile.”
Neat concept. I like how it groups people together in clusters. Inadvertently you can see the electronica scene in Victoria as a cluster at the bottom in the green.
Speaking of “electronica”, I have a mix airing on Pacific Front Sessions on Proton Radio this Wednesday at noon PST with Joel Armstrong, and another mix later this week on Tide Pool is Love on Proton Radio with Fractal. That one is on at midnight on Thursday night for you nocturnal types.
As you may have heard, “ariz0na” is done and as such there is one last DJ ariz0na mix which I will be posting shortly. I will continue mixing (as I have lately) under the AFK name, which I also produce under. The event to end ariz0na was a smashing success, and was a great chance for people to soak up the Pacific Front sound, what with Formulate, c79, Dustin H and Fractal also performing that night. Definitely a night to remember!
