if you have my cell number, i’m in van today.
call and we will meet up for a coffee!
you’re doing society no good at all
thanks to aaron for pointing this article out:
Vatican: condoms don’t stop Aids
apparently The Vatican is so against contraceptions (but not the spread of AIDS) that they’re spreading blatent lies about condoms.
they are even demonizing the workers in the manufacturing plants:
“Some priests have even been saying that condoms are laced with HIV/Aids.”
brutal!
oh yeah before i forget, shaw is having trouble sending emails to hotmail.com addresses. so if you have a hotmail.com email address, and you are expecting email from me.. well, you’re not going to get any because i can’t send you anything!! sorry :(.
guess who this is!!

well, they say late at night could possibly be the worst time to try and write. i’m inclined to believe that, except the night is when i am feeling most creative. and writing is a creative expression, soooo..
maybe it’s something to do with fresh ideas. i mean after you wake up you’ve pressumably been dreaming and therefore you have spent some time outside reality and all the regular uninspiring junk that goes along with it.
yeah. so i believe that. but i think i have always been inspired by being the light in the darkness, the one who stays up later than everyone else, seeing the sun rise and knowing it’s probably time to go to sleep. i’ve always been a night owl.
i am nocturnal.

well i suppose that i should make this post half relevant to the pictures here. so the question is: who is this person? the first name isn’t enough, folks. that’s easy enough to find. who knows who this person is? does anyone?
tonight i hung out over at charles and played for him what i figure to be one of the final mixdowns of caveman. there are a few more polishing touches (stereo field etc blah blah) but it’s basically all there. i added some other melody type stuff in tonight, filtered and phased, flanged and distorted, but in the end i trashed it ins favour of a brighter instrumentation. we also listened to a bunch of other music .. i played some of the ch00ns that are really kicking my ass these days, and he played some for me as well, really incredible stuff. i kept on finding myself going “wow.” he gave me this cd as homework, i’m going to be listening to it in the next few days.. i got a preview, it sounds really quite awesome.
sorry to the 5 people that visited yesterday and didn’t get an update.
here it is.
i’m somewhat sleep deprived, but you get the picture. or do you?
seriously, i don’t know why i am getting so much traffic these days.. probably from julie — she’s outreferring MSN and Yahoo and only barely behind google. also some putz posted a picture from this site onto a message board forum (according to the webalizer, this happens quite a bit) for paul oakenfold. haha. anyone remember this post?

i went on a long walk today at lunch .. ended up in this place past shoreline elementary school .. very cool bird sanctuary peninsula jutting out into portage inlet.. the sign outside of it said no dogs etc, but they let developers make incredibly ugly appartment buildings the whole way down. it’s an eyesore. the land is beautiful. it was difficult to understand how they could
1) build on a bird sanctuary
2) build incredibly ugly buildings in such a prime location
anyways i got some neat shots of the shoreline and wandered to a place in victoria i had never been before. i had always been curious about the piece of land that you see on the water across from the left of the highway enroute to the malahat / colwood / helmecken etc. neato. i’ll post pictures another day. i really have a lot of other pictures to post still.
later today is resonance and the famous golfer nick gurns is DJing! wooo! we’re in for a treat once again today!!
lost in the fog

i went driving with richard the other night. it was superfoggy and we were listening to James Holden‘s (not to be confused with James Holden or James Holden) Balance 05 CD1. great driving music, great anything music really. the fog was thick, the music was creepy. it was spooky, kind of hallowe’en vibey. would have been need to see some roman candles in that kind of weather. i was thinking it would be nice to do some photography that night, but i didn’t. my energy is in music right now. i worked more on caveman last night, pretty happy with it but there’s a bit i have to compose. overall i’d say my influences from voyager, max graham, hybrid, starecase, parks & wilson, tarrentella vs. redanka etc have come into play in this production.
the picture is from friday night when myself, krishen and nathan went for coffee at denny’s. yes, that’s right the BTCFS was in action as recently as Friday. ooooo!
i am a bit low on energy these days, probably the weather. and there’s other stuff obviously going on, but work is keeping me sane and challenging me in the right way. good work, love you work. sit, work. roll over work. yes. good work.
what are you all doing out there?

i went to a rather cool cybersuds meeting tonight and met some interesting people. it was a smallish meeting, which suited me fine as everyone got to talk to everyone and i ended up staying for almost 3 hours. david, jim, december, jodie, vicky, ken and kristin showed up.
most likely i will go to the next meetup .. you know, just to see who is there. cybersuds is a media / tech victoria based listserv.
nose to the grindstone

what an awful saying for such a wonderful thing. i have gotten a tonne done today, and it feels great. aside from bashing my left knee repeatedly, it’s been a completely energizing day!!
the photo above is from yesterday’s rather epic photogroffee session where i have no doubt over a 1000 shots were taken.
photogroffee001: grasscore

this morning at 8 a.m., jim invited me, krishen, julie, aaron, neil, chrissie and rich over for coffee at his place, with a planned photo session to ensue. except we had only planned that we were going to do a photosession — we never determined where or what.
so, out came the dictionary. we randomly selected 5 words and then picked locations that went with those words, and off we went!!
the result was photogroffee001: grasscore.
tonight we’re hitting up the revamped oak bay rec swimming pool before krishen hops on a 6:30 a.m. flight to florida!

Subject: I’m the real Davin!
Hahaha!! My name is Davin G. also but it’s Davin J. Givhan. I saw what you wrote on the guestbook of Davin James’ website. I’m 23 years old and I always told everyone that I was the only Davin on earth, because it’s very cool to have a name that no one’s ever seen or knows how to pronounce. I pronounce my name Dave-In, and if any other Davins pronounce it different it only makes my life harder. So I laughed when I saw that you wrote you were the real Davin, because I’m obviously the real Davin. But anyway what’s even more strange is that I play guitar just like Davin James does and I checked out your website and I guess you’re a musician too. hmmm… But my nationality is 50% African-American 50% Puerto Rican, where as Davin James is a southern outlaw who, according to the pictures on his site, displays his white-trashness by playing slide guitar with a can of bud light. Anyway I’m from Long Beach, California and I currently attend the California Institute of the Arts and I’m in a band called Stolen Babies. www.stolenbabiestheband.com
Later,
Davin

collide

i just gotta say that james holden has made my morning. if you can find the james holden balance CD’s (it’s a 2 CD set) go and get it. utterly awesome, one of the best things i have heard in a long time.
it’s nice to have some great music to go with the productivity. perhaps the two are related.. i get inspired by music. all this thinking about luke chable (doesn’t have a website) and never mentioning it on my blog is really wrong. basically everything this guy has touched is gold. he’s sort of james holden-y and produces under the name Quest and sometimes his own name. but really, he kicks ass. and i am in the process of putting this new CD together and i am trying to figure out what the last track is gonna be and i keep coming back to Luke Chable tracks. really, that’s not bad, is it? the problem is that there are already 2 of Luke’s tracks on the CD. this is supposed to be a dj ariz0na mix cd, not a Luke Chable remix and production compilation!!! i think i’ll make one of those too. and a starecase one, and a hybrid one. would you like that? i would.
tomorrow i have a rather massive set prepared for resonance which is on at 3 pm on 101.9 FM. or click on the website for streaming audio directly from the station! there is word of recording capabilities directly at the station but right now it’s just a rumor. that would be optimal for recording the radio show, ’cause it would be a .wav file and i could splonk it directly to mp3 and transfer it over to our radio show website. that would be goodest. recording the show to minidisc and then recording it to computer means i triple the amount of time i spend on the show every week just so that people who don’t listen when its on can listen later. yeaaaaah right! listen to the show!!! 😛 seriously, i’d like to archive it though. that was my hope from the beginning.. so that i can listen to the show too 😉
anyways i am sure i have bored all of you to tears with my dj babble so i’ll talk about the victoria blog meetup tonight, 7 pm @ QV’s. come with your ideas for a victoria central blog site and we’ll jam over coffee!
