• this is usually around the time..

This is usually around the time that I get ready to go back to school, historically. Those of you who know me are aware that I graduated from business school / college in June, and as such, I will be taking at least this year off from school to work, save up, and travel. I was going to use the word 'hopefully' in there but it is completely inevitable now, seeing as how that is what I want to do and there's no good reason why I shouldn't.

It's been about 11 years since I travelled outside of the Northwest. The furthest I've been since then is Oregon about 8 years ago. I really like this area of the world, but I need to see more after all this time of school and work and all the stuff in between.

  • whut the?

Lately I've been posting pictures instead of writing .. I'm getting lazy! Luckily (or unluckily if you're someone else) I've noticed what I have been doing, and have decided to just write for at least this entry.

Tonight I'm going to go swimming at Oak Bay Rec with Craig. I like Oak Bay Recreation Center. (Is that 'Center' or 'Centre'?) They have a Water Slide and a rope and a hot tub and a sauna etc. After that we're gonna come back to my place and spin choons! chooooons!

Oh no, I have crumbled. (picture by Tyson)

  • travelling on

I don't think I've ever been up at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning before. Not that I don't like mornings.. I quite do, but I'd rather stay up for them rather than get up for them. I'm a night person.. apparently that isn't normal and stuff, but I always have been. I was born at 2 a.m. on May 23rd, 1978. I was BORN a night person.. haha. :)

The hike I went on during the daytime of Saturday was incredibly beautiful. I went with my extended family (that is what you call your cousins and uncles and aunts & stuff isn't it?) and we started in Lake Cowichan.

We went on something called the Trans-Canada trail. The particular part of the trail we went on goes between Lake Cowichan and Sooke, and hits Glenora in the middle. We were headed to Glenora, which was about 24 kilometers if you stay on the trail.

Along the way we passed Skutz Falls. There isn't much water in the area right now compared to normal because of the dry weather, which means i got to go down to where some old fish ladders were.

In this section, either the tree had fallen or been pushed by the water and there was a big hole in the side of the concrete ladder from it, or maybe it was a coincidence. Either way, it looked pretty cool.

I don't think I've seen many unmanipulated images that could possibly be more Canadian than this. Haha, I am so proud of this shot. 8)

Uhm, so remember where I said the hike is 24k if you stay on the main trail? Most of us did. I did not. A few people from the hiking kru went on a slight detour (a 10k detour) that crossed back up about 6.5k down the trail.

I'm glad we did, it was gorgeous in there. Eventually we got out again.

Ah, here are the smart people. The trail runs parallel and over top of the Cowichan River and there are some pretty stunning scenes along the way.

Here's the part where the trail leads to Glenora. We took this exit and our hike-walk was over.

Afterwards we all went up to Youbou for a BBQ at my Uncle Neil's 3 story cabin beside Lake Cowichan. It was just gorgeous there and I spent a good chunk of the time in the water. At about 8 p.m. I got dropped off at a secret rendezvous location in Duncan where Craig picked me up so that we could all go to Final Departure in Campbell River.

Okay, here's a bit of a rant. I like going upisland. I like getting away from Victoria. I enjoy car trips. I love the company of my friends Jim, Craig, Yoseff and Maria. And of course it was Justin's birthday party, and Braeden and Erandi were there too.

But.

I hate being away from Victoria for a long while, especially when I am tired. And then to go further away from Victoria whilst in Duncan to Campbell River was the opposite of what I wanted to be doing at the moment. I wish I didn't have to sleep.. but as Jim pointed out, then I wouldn't have dreams. Wasn't it Shakespeare that said "to sleep, perchance to dream" in one of his little stories? Be that as it may, I'm quite the day-dreamer and as such, I don't need sleep for dreams.

hah!

Take THAT, Shake Spear! (evilYoseff picture by Jim)

Now that I've said that stuff, I have to say the party was well put together. CrazyDave did the sound and lighting and when your setting is so beautiful, you don't need a hell of a lot to make the place look magical. The music was great but by about 3 a.m. or so I had to go sleep in Craig's car. Along the way to his car I managed to walk through a GIANT LAKE OF MUDDY WATER that was about 20 feet long and about a foot deep in some places. How lovely.

I arrived in Victoria safely at my place at 9 a.m. Yay!

We now return to real life.

  • so long extreme

On Friday at 1:07 p.m., Extreme 107.3 FM went off the air and a new station came along in its place, complete with new callsign and all. The station was playing random music all day trying to keep people guessing (ergo listening) as to what the new format was. I wont waste your time; here's an mp3 clip of the format switch over that occured at 1:07 pm. (picture by tyson)

I agree with the first two lines of the first song they play.. but L.A.?!?!??!!??!!? whut!

I have a lot of good memories about that place, and some not-so-great memories -- but the good memories far outweigh the bad ones..

Tim, my co-host! Here's a clip of us yapping and Kevin Shiu saying HELLO!!!

NickGurns spun many times on the show and we also had this tendency to run our mouths on air. Oops. (Picture by Jim)

The transition between the end of Brian Adler's Saturday night show and the beginning of RGM was always fun.. It looks like Brian Adler may be headed to MTV Canada. He's one hell of a talent and I'm sure he'll do very well. Yes, Brian the 'King of Segueways' Adler at a "rave," Velocity 2001! Oh my goodness. Speaking of RAVES, and Velocity 2001, I have my set from Velocity 2001 up on the music page now! And on that topic, Lefty has been superultrakind and decided to host my other mixes on his phat pipes. Download faster, download more! Here's a clip of myself, Tim & Brian yapping between our shows.. oh dear. :)

I did several marketing projects with college business students that I went to Camosun with. Here is one of my favorite groups: (CW) Jennie, myself, Matt on the phones, Janis below in the blue, and Sarina in the white.

Myself and Erik buzzing around the on-air booth (picture by tyson)

Canada Day 2000 - 80,000+ listeners in the inner harbour, Ghosthak playing like a machine and John Debo showing up later.. then running to the Memorial Arena where I met Mina and then Sasha within minutes of eachother. Oh and John Digweed was there too.. haha :)

Dinner with the boys from Hybrid after their Live P.A. before Moby.. and then a private party at a restaurant in the West End of Vancouver with Hybrid on the turntables was incredible.

The Classiv Show - began at 10 pm and didn't end until after 5 .. over 7 hours straight of spinning and hosting.. yowza! (picture by tyson) Note the massive kru presence. Myself and Jim at the far end enjoying the show.. the same night he did this shoot.

Geoff

Natalie, also known as mouse

We've been caught having fun! (picture by tyson)

This is how I spent a lot of my time there.. at the mic, and on IRC. (picture by tyson)

And so, for some reason, today I feel like I have closure on all of that Losing A Good Radio Show stuff. There's something about the station actually changing that makes me feel a little better about myself.. I knew they were going to change formats, and that was why we lost The Show, but it hadn't actually happened yet. And so now it is done. I move on.

  • not so blue

Today was one of Those Days. You know, the days where you're unable to figure out why you feel so incredibly lethargic.. and it makes you feel more lethargic. Ugh!

So anyways. Myself and Jim wandered slowly around town, taking our time and dragging our feet. Eating nachos at Smitty's probably didn't help. It was one of those days that would have been far better served at Durrance Lake.

I was in pajamas by midnight last night. So I should've gotten some good sleep, in theory.. but I didn't. I stayed up until 3 not really doing anything. What the hell is that all about?! 3 hours EVAPORATED on me. WTF. I bet this doesn't happen to anyone else.. roffle. :)

My head is a bit of a jumble today so I'm going to leave it at that. The words just are not coming to me to describe the way I'm feeling.

  • Nepalese Bliss

Today is the day that myself, jim and ria go to the Sooke Potholes. Take my word for it, the 'Potholes' themselves are a lot prettier than the Sooke Potholes website. It's supposed to be the hottest day of the year for Victoria (how do They predict These Things?) and I'll be damned if I'm anywhere else but the Potholes for it.

This morning Krishen leaves for Florida once again, and Ria arrives back from a 1 year visit to Toronto. Also, I move across the hood, as I'll be done house sitting this morning. A week and a few days sure does go by quickly when you have a house to yourself. Fed the cats, cleaned up.. and no, I didn't get my hair cut. :P

  • what a gorgeous day!

I got up early today. For davin, early on a Sunday means before noon -- specifically, 9 a.m. I went for breakfast with Krishen, Mavis, Craig and Erica. Afterwards, we wandered around downtown for a while and Craig participated in mockery of tourists, which means he really lives in Victoria -- in case there was any doubt.

I left town and went to go meet up with devon at Mayfair Mall. I ran into Jordy on the way in .. an old friend from the STS days. He looks a lot different, that much is for certain. Certainly 8 years and puberty will make a difference. A haircut and ditching of glasses. Yep, looks completely different.

So devon's boyfriend Jeremy brought his digital camera with him. This means I will have pictures to link to later to tell the story.. but for now I will excite you with words! haha.

Afterwards we took the scenic drive to Gyro Park and climbed on the concrete beasts. These pictures are going to be hilarious, I am certain of that. :)

Then we went up Mt. Doug and took in the view. Just beautiful. Have I mentioned gorgeous? Anyways I took devon and Jeremy to the ferry where I saw the biggest ferry lineup ever. I think it went a good kilometer back at least past the overpass before the ticket buying booths. And the walk-on lineup was gone past the ends of the bus stops outside of the departures building, and around the corner. woah.

Tonight I'm going swimming with Krishen at Oak Bay Rec Center. That is it for now!

dj bbq .. not bbq'd dj's, we wouldn't taste very good. instead, a bbq where we get our hands messy with food, and then downright dirty with vinyl. the host is the gracious spyguy who has hosted other such gatherings in the past and which have been quite enjoyable. if we decide to shoutcast, i will post the url on here.

i am bringing the salsa for the chips and the spice for the sound system.

  • cloud cuckoo

as promised.. here is my dream from this eve passed.

so, last night, i continued with my dreaming. this time it had one of my other brother's in it, Anand. he is my oldest brother, and weirdest by far. well that is, if you don't count me.

i dreamt we were driving in the Green Machine (our family van, a 1978 Ford Econoline 150.. horrendous on gas) and we were in a big city. for some reason, we came to a large intersection where we got out of the van because walking would be faster. we crossed the road, and then the light finally turned green for the lane that the van was in. there was a large cement truck behind the van that had a very impatient driver. the driver of the truck decided to push the van forwad himself. the van must have been in neutral for some reason, and it accelerated fairly easily. we watched it speed pass us as the big cement truck turned off onto another road. the van went hurtling down this major road that we were standing in the middle of. it got to another intersection and crashed violently with some other vehicles. we didn't know what to do. the van had crashed into a few cars etc, and then deflected off of those to drive into the side of a store. we ran up -- there was plenty of glass everywhere. i recall in the dream that my parents did not have insurance on the van that particular day for some reason. this made things more difficult.

so what we did was we got in the van, backed it out of the store, and drove home some how.

later, we got into an interogation room where some of the car owners and the store owner's lawyers were trying to make a criminal case against my brother Anand. they brought in his friend Cara who said all sorts of nasty stuff about him and they tried to get me to agree with them. but i wouldn't. by the end of the interogation, i had them convinced that i was some sort of legal authority. i am not certain how i did this, but it had to do with the way i was talking - i remember that.

it ended there.

  • i had a dream last night

So after waking up to feed the cats this morning, I decided I was still too exhausted to be awake for the day and I should probably go back to sleep.

Which, I guess, explains this dream that I had when I actually did fall asleep again.

I was driving my brother Krishen to the airport because, for some reason, he was leaving for L.A. When I dropped him off, he was a bit late so he missed his flight. It was about 8:05 pm. It was the kind of airline that would let you get on the next flight, however, so he stuck around for an hour so that he could catch the next one. I decided to grab my stuff from home and come back.

"Wait" I says to him. "I'm coming too!" I figure that I'll grab my clothes etc and go visit some friends of mine that live in L.A. These friends have been trying to get me down there forever. I got back to the airport at about 9:05, late again. Krishen was still there, waiting for me.

"Oh crapolla!" I said, or something to that effect. (I don't remember every detail.. it's a dream!) "Well, I'm going to go back to the house again to grab my records. There's a couple places that want me to play down in L.A."

So again, I leave. I grab a bunch of my fav. records from home, and leave for the airport again. I have plenty of time to be late since I was only grabbing my records and that only takes a few minutes at home, unlike packing clothes.

I arrived at the airport at about 9:40. I parked the green car I was driving in the airport parking lot. When I got out of the car, I instantly saw one of my old friends (who has already passed on in real life) with some of my other old quasi-friends (who have not) in the parking lot.

I said "HEY! D!"

He looked at me blankly. "I'm not D."

"Who are you?" I said.

He went on to explain that he was someone else. I don't remember exactly who he said he was. It doesn't matter. He looked and talked exactly the same with the same voice and everything. It was spooky as hell. He got in the car with my old quasi-friends and they drove off. In my dream, there were 3 possibilities to explain this:

1) My old quasi-friends had found some guy who looked and talked the same as our old friend who passed on, and had him hang around to replace our passed on friend.

2) "D" wasn't really dead but was living on his own death insurance. Though D always liked a good scam, this was a bit far fetched for all the family has already been through.

3) This new guy was real and had nothing to do with my old friend or quasi-friends. I never spoke to my old quasi-friends so they may have been other people as well.

By this time it is around 10 and I arrive to see Krishen still waiting for me. We had missed the 10 pm flight.

The dream ends. I wake up.

This is one of the dreams I would slide in to classification of The Reoccuring dream I've been having for the last several years. It is always about not taking off in a plane at an airport. Some of the dreams I actually get in the plane to take the flight, but the plane only ends up taxiing around the runway, never taking flight or leaving. The people and the airport are never the same in any of the dreams, but it's the same idea.

I'm not totally certain I know what this reoccuring dream is about.. but I think I have a good idea.

What do you think?

  • Things are working..

With some help from my friends.. woohoo! Thank you jimkrishendevon!

In other news.. it's been a crazy last week and I'm glad things have calmed down in my world for now. I like a little bit of nuttiness in my life but I think I can take a break from it for a good while.

My friend Dani is in from Germany for a few days and I'll be meeting up with him tonight. My brother Krishen will be arriving from Florida tomorrow which of course will be awesome. Should be a good weekend!
